I often pause to wonder--incredulous--at how people get away with things. How nice guys do finish last. How only the good die young. How anyone can willfully, willingly, destroy someone else's life without a care in the world and seemingly get what he or she wants. It is even better when the getter/gettee are able to make themselves into a pity party for two.
I keep on seeing it happen. Everything, doubtless, happens for some twisted reason--but does that ever make it right? I tend to think not. And why do people go so far out of their way to fuck each other over? Is it blind ambition? Is it the difference between being a doer and being an achiever? Is it just dumb luck? And when it's done in your vicinity, is it ever NOT irritating to witness or experience?
Mirror in the sky, what is love? A few years ago, a relative of mine grew somewhat deathly ill. Hard to diagnose, scared she would end up early dead, miserable in hospital in pain and sicker with worry. Her husband, who battles some major health problems of his own, refused to leave her sickbed no matter her insistence. She needed him, he was there, the end. Cramped in a chair three nights running with an oxygen tank at his side. She got better. They remain one solid pair. I call that love. All the flowers and chocolates and secret rendevous and first kisses and illicit affairs don't hold a candle to that kind of devotion.
Because guess what sports fans? That is where you end up if you are lucky. And you sure as hell don't throw away that kind of love during a rough patch here, a sucky time there, a point in a relationship where you don't feel sexy back 24/7, the moment a new-smelling dog comes sniffing around and sets you rimmature hormones ablaze. And if you do, well then you suck ass and I for one cannot wait until you get what you deserve. Lonely, rotting, horrifying nothingness. What goes around comes around.
And my favorite part, it is probably the easiest thing to do. To accept love, and let someone love you and to love them in return. The greatest thing you'll ever learn, indeed. Take responsibility, don't cheat, don't lie, don't steal someone's someone and don't allow yourself to be stolen. Don't go batshit crazy and destroy someone's whole world cause you get itchy or bored or have pretend problems. Get that you really can destroy someone's everything. You can make someone not crazy crazy. You wouldn't like that done to you. Show some respect, yo.
And that's (for the moment) all I gots to stay about that.
Where's the like button on this thing?
ReplyDeleteIf you bail when the "new car smell where's off," you probably don't know what love is, and you'll likely never be IN IT!
